FIFA World Cup 2018 Host City bid

World cup

In December, it was announced by the FA that, following a robust bidding process, Manchester had been selected as one of the host cities for the England 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup bid.

Marketing Manchester played an active part in the Manchester bid - including the co-ordination of the bid book design, press and PR activity, public engagement and recruitment of celebrity pledges of support.

The selection of Manchester as a host city is very important as, if England's World Cup bid is successful - Manchester could see some £80million of economic benefit - similar to the amount that Munich saw in 2006.

Manchester's bid to become a host city was led by Manchester City Council, with strong support from both Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs, from Salford City Council and Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, and from the police, the transport authority and Marketing Manchester.

In the coming months we will work closely with the FA to prepare a bid for FIFA that positions Manchester as the best possible host for 2018.
